So, finally it is in my grasp.
What is this game you ask?
A new big release by the good old Sega company, which has not done very much good in the latest years but this together with Yakuza 2 is supposed to be their great comeback to the scene.
Valkyria is a Action/strategy RPG with a real time strategy game flavor tossed in there. You play out large scale battles in a third person perspective, all done in a World War 2 setting except it's all done in typical japenese RPG fashion, but the weapons are real.
And with the music being composed by the god Hitoshi Sakimoto, how could you go wrong?! And, and, and the new graphics engine called CANVAS done by Sega themselves, looks just like a water color painting set into motion.... *drooooooooooooool*
Gah, can't wait more now.
Well, time to game this bitch, I'm free today so I have alot of time on my hands. ^___^
I really hope you got it too Lania and also will game your butt off tonight when you get off your work at 4pm.
*starts my Ps3*
Gamed for a few hours now and... wow.
Firstly the music is perfect, you know Hitoshi's music style is very orchestrated and grand so it really fits into the war theme of this game really well and it gets you all pumped up like in the battle themes for Final Fantasy Tactics or his boss theme in FFXII, and besides all the battle pumpyness it of course has those beautiful soothing nice themes.. damn I could go on forever...
The script is to this point very well written and engaging, you just wanna know more about this story all the time... Also the voice actors are way over decent, the likes of Kari Wahlgren (Raine in Tales of Symphonia) who is like a narrator, a storyteller in between the chapters and events. Dave Wittenberg (Cliff in Star Ocean 3) who does the voice for the main character in the game. Speaking of him, he's not your typical blue haired youth that wants to go on an adventure to explore the world and rid it of all the evilness, no this guy is much more realistic and human-like, which is very refreshing. There is also the option to have japanese voices but personally I love this voice dubbing team so I won't.
Not too far into the game you get your own squad of troops to assemble, there are different kinds of them, like the scouts who can move far and uncover enemies for your more heavily armed troops, I won't say more to spoil the fun!
The combat is incredibly unique, besides being very innovative I suppose I could go as far out and call it a mix between random S-RPG that has an AP bar that determines how far you can move in one turn and a PC action game in the sense how you move your characters but it's not really that reminiscent of that, just trying to compare it with something, not really needed since it's so new and fresh but anyways.
So after a few hours of gaming it's all just very good.. the beautiful cutscenes that has this water painting feeling all the time, an engaging and different setting and story for a japanese RPG that we're all used to makes for (to this point) an amazing, grand, orchestrated very beautiful gaming experience.
Altough I was not a fan of it myself it kinda feels like what Skies of Arcadia was for the Dreamcast when it came out years ago (a huge underdog game that was sadly overlooked by many as lots of other games for other systems were released at the same time, just like this one will probably be) speaking of that, 3 special characters from that game are supposed to be in Valkyria.
I'm about 6 hours into the game now and here's a naughty greeting...

(sorry bout the quality, this is very zoomed in on my 100" screen)
........ :O What's this?! this was so oversized that I just had to do it. ;)
Finally the Playstation 3 has it's own game of greatness, that's not and will not be on any other console.
Sega is back and god, I have missed your greatness.
Cheerios.
